Group Business... Meeting after Reading Week

Today we have had a meeting discussing what we have been doing for the business over reading week and what we need to next as it isn't long until the presentations on the 28th.

Location

- Lisa has looked at lots of possible places in Huddersfield and Leeds [blog post]
- After talking to Jane, we think it is best that we stay in this area, as this is central to all of us, and we need to think realistically rather than getting someone to move to the other side of the country
- Through Lisa's research, we know that the rent we need to pay is about £250 a month (between £3500 and £4000 a year). This is to rent a small creative space.
- A new idea that Lisa found out about is hiring a virtual office, where you hire an address and get some of the office facilities. This is a cheaper option, and looks professional, having a good address but being able to work from home to save money.
- We could rent an address for a while, until we get enough money to pay the rent for a permanent place when we are established (maybe after a year?)
- Ideas for permanent address: Hebden Bridge (outside of Leeds) East Street if decide to stay in Leeds city centre?
- We could spend the first year in Leeds city to see if it is feasible to live here as there is so much competition, or if we need to move to the outskirts
- The Unit diamond package (£50 plus VAT p/m) could be the perfect virtual office - hot desking, address, links to city college facilities, presentation room. There is the potential to move on to a proper address here for £150 a month.

Our Identity

- We are fresh, and will use our experience on this course as an advantage
- Give fixed price contracts so customers know what to expect
- We are current
- We offer competitive prices to attract the most customers, so we don't expect to make a profit at first

Getting Work

- smcs.alito.co.uk - public sector tendor - we could try to work for the local councils, and there is a potential to create branding for primary schools
- The pitch is important, first it is a written one then if they are interested in it you go and do a presentation
- In contract, if working for a fixed price, limit the number of the re-designs and then charge the hourly rate afterwards to stop clients from taking advantage

Financial

- We need overheads, spread sheets
- All need to look at business link website and plans

Marketing and Promotion

- Need something to make us stand out
- Need business cards
- Need to decide on final slogan and tagline

Tasks

These are the tasks we decided we would each take on, rather than all doing the same thing:

Lisa - financial side / overhead sheet
Me - mission statement / executive summary / slogan / tagline / wording
Marty - designing business cards & promotional material
Charlie - marketing communication mix
