Group Business... Answering Things Off Our Checklist

Today we had a meeting to talk about what we had done off our checklist and what we needed to do. Tomorrow we are going to look around the Unit, and we even thought about seeing if we could talk to the other graphic design company which is situated there, as if we were moving in there may be chance of a collaboration.

Issues Covered:

- Exact target audience: business to business - companies whose logo needs refreshing, can also create branding and identity for new businesses
- We need to earn £111 a day each to cover our business expenses and earn £20k each a year, and this is with us hotdesking. We need to earn about £15 an hour each. We will have to work long hours.
- There aren't any grants available, so our start up costs would have to be from our savings, a personal loan, or a business loan. We also think that we will need to each have a part time job, for one or two days a week, earning about £6k a year.
- To build up a group portfolio our strategy is to start the business in June 2013 when we leave, but up until then we would be entering competitions and taking on live briefs
- We would have a few briefs on the go at the same time to earn as much money as possible, and because there are four of us this is possible
- We had to decide how long we thought it would take us to create a logo. We would't necessarily need all of us on the same brief at the same time. It would be a good idea to all sit around and discuss the brief and bounce ideas off each other, then split up into separate roles so we are not wasting time. We could offer different types of rebranding, from just creating a logo, to creating a full identity and website for the company. This would alter the price we charge. We are thinking it would be about £400 to come up with a logo, but we aren't sure what the other companies out there are charging, so we need to do a bit of research and find this out.
- We have decided we will be a limited partnership, we need to factor how this will effect out costs though
- We need to choose a printers we will use most of the time in Leeds and establish a partnership with these. The printers we use may vary depending on what the client wants. For example, Team print probably provide the best quality prints but will be the most expensive
- We need to make the client feel special, we will do this by sending them birthday cards, an invitation to a networking event we've set up, free consultations, discount vouches, thank you cards, limited editions prints and more...
- We need to gather some pieces of work to do with branding and identity that inspire us to put together a design direction board
- We could talk to the other graphic design agency at The Unit that could be our competition for more information and possibility of collaboration
